Across Vilnius by Night Buses: Services to Run on Public Holiday Nights Too

As the event season approaches, residents and visitors of the capital are reminded of the option to travel around the city by night buses. To ensure better connectivity, they will run not only on weekends but also on public holidays—the next service is scheduled for the night of May 1.

“Spring and summer make Vilnius even more vibrant—there are more events, evenings are longer, and people naturally stay out later. Night routes help ensure the city is accessible to everyone at any time of day, and we see that residents value this option. To further improve convenience, we will also enable night buses to run on holiday nights, even midweek, when both locals and visitors spend time in the city until late,” says Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas.

JUDU Director Loreta Levulytė-Staškevičienė notes that the nine night bus routes, which have been operating in Vilnius for a year, have become a regular travel choice for both residents and visitors.

“Different routes connect the city center with residential areas, making it easy and convenient to get home after late events, night shifts, or trips to and from the airport. A transfer hub for night routes is already operating at the intersection of Pamėnkalnio, Jogailos, and Pylimo streets. Night routes departing from the Islandijos stop are coordinated so passengers can easily transfer between all nine routes.

It is a convenient and environmentally friendly way to travel, offering greater flexibility to plan your time even at night. In addition, standard public transport fares apply on night buses, making night travel not only safe but also accessible to everyone,” she says.

Laura Vaišnorė, Head of the Vilnius Night Office, adds that night public transport helps the city remain open, modern, and lively 24/7.

“Night buses strengthen the nighttime economy—bars, clubs, and cultural events can operate more actively and attract more visitors, and the fear of ‘missing the last bus’ disappears. This reduces the gap between the desire and the real ability to participate in nightlife, making art, concerts, and events more accessible to all. Convenient night public transport also allows people living further from the center to easily reach it, while moving transport adds vitality and a sense of safety to the city,” she says.

Most journeys take place in summer and autumn

According to JUDU data, night buses are popular year-round. In 2025, an average of around 120,000 passengers used night services. A more noticeable increase in ridership is observed in summer and autumn, with the highest numbers recorded in August and peak travel in September–October. On weekends, night buses carry an average of 2,600 passengers.

The most popular routes among night travelers are: N1 Center–Antakalnis–Saulėtekis, N3 Center–Žirmūnai–Baltupiai–Santariškės and N4 Center–Kalvarijų–S. Stanevičiaus St.–Pašilaičiai.

Night bus routes were updated on April 25, 2025. During the warm season, they operate as usual—on Friday–Saturday and Saturday–Sunday nights, running every 30 minutes from midnight. The last departures from the city center to residential districts are at 4:00 a.m. Shortly after 4:00 a.m., the first daytime buses begin running, ensuring public transport operates almost around the clock.

Night routes are operated by “Vilniaus viešasis transportas” and “Transrevis”.
