The Vilnius Night Office, together with the Vilnius City Municipality, invites nightlife venues across the city to join the Safer Nightlife Memorandum – an initiative that helps create a safer, more inclusive and responsible nightlife environment in Vilnius.
Last year, the first memorandum of its kind in Lithuania was signed in Vilnius. It was signed by the Vilnius City Municipality, the Vilnius Night Office and 27 nightlife venues across the city. The aim of the memorandum is to strengthen cooperation between the city, nightlife businesses and other partners in order to reduce risks, strengthen prevention and ensure a safer environment for both visitors and staff.
The memorandum is based on the principle of shared responsibility. It helps establish common safety standards and provides nightlife venues with practical tools to prepare for a range of situations – from preventing inappropriate behaviour, harassment and sexual violence to responding to health emergencies and other risks.
Nightlife venues that join the initiative receive:
- methodological support and consultations;
- priority access to staff training;
- access to the Nightlife Safety Standard and practical tools for its implementation;
- informational and harm reduction materials for visitors;
- the opportunity to use the “Safer Venue” label upon implementing the required safety measures.
Growing interest in the initiative demonstrates that an increasing number of Vilnius nightlife venues are committed to actively contributing to a safer urban environment. Therefore, an additional memorandum signing will be organised this year, and nightlife venues that have not yet joined are invited to become part of the initiative.
