MONITORING

Collecting data on nightlife and the night time economy is an essential step towards understanding the impact of this sector on the city and its communities. Nightlife generates significant income, creates jobs, enhances cultural vitality and boosts tourism, but these benefits are often not properly measured due to a lack of data.
By collecting data on visitor flows, economic contribution, security situation and environmental impacts, we can develop more informed policies, manage resources more efficiently and balance the interests of residents and businesses. Until now, data on this sector has rarely been collected, due to the fact that the night-time economy has traditionally been seen as a secondary or informal part of city life. In addition, there has been a lack of methodologies and resources to analyse this dynamic and multifaceted area. However, with changing priorities in urban governance and the growing importance of nightlife in the economy, data collection is not only relevant but also essential for effective decision-making.
While preparations for this big step are underway, we invite you to take a look at the data already available from two important surveys – the 2024 survey of the population of Vilnius and the survey of night-time economy professionals. These surveys reveal the attitudes, experiences and needs of the local community and provide valuable information on the challenges and potential of the business sector. This is the first step towards creating a dialogue between all stakeholders and ensuring that future decisions are based on real data and a balance of all interests.
