      Frequently asked questions

      What is the night economy?

The nighttime economy encompasses cultural, social and economic activities that take place between 7pm and 7am. It thrives on the contributions of pub and club owners, artists, event organisers, hospitality workers, healthcare professionals and shift workers. A vibrant city strengthens a sense of community, increases the attractiveness of a city and encourages social connections at night.

This sector of the economy can make a significant contribution to the socio-economic vitality of a city, including job creation, tourism development, cultural heritage and social inclusion. For example, London’s night-time economy generates billions of pounds a year, while Berlin is renowned for its nightclub culture, which attracts more tourists.

Vilnius Night Office actively supports the development of the night economy, promoting the vitality and diversity of the city. It acts as a mediator, uniting the municipality, business, the cultural sector and communities in order to address the challenges of nightlife. In addition, the Office  initiates events and projects that contribute to the creation of a safe and attractive nightlife environment, and ensures that the interests of residents, businesses and visitors are aligned. Vilnius Night Office also collects data on Vilnius’ nightlife and provides recommendations to the municipality.

One of the main challenges of nightlife is the consequences of psychoactive substance use. Our goal is to minimize the harm not only to the health of visitors and employees of nightlife venues, but also to the neighbors of these venues. To achieve this, we propose to act in four main areas: visitor education, creating a safe social and physical environment, focusing on employee well-being, and active cooperation between representatives of nightlife venues, institutions, and communities. You can find more detailed information about these initiatives on our website in the “Safety” section.

Dainykla is a cultural space for performances and innovative events that promote artistic diversity. These independent venues create a cozy atmosphere, offer affordable ticket prices, and support emerging artists, contributing to the cultural vitality of the community. You can find more detailed information about these initiatives on our website in the “Night Culture” section.

Vilnius Night Office helps residents and entertainment venues understand their rights and obligations, advises on noise regulations and various issues related to resolving potential conflicts. Our team can also mediate in noise-related disputes or offer the services of a professional mediator. More about this in the “Mediation” section.

Vilnius Night Office does not provide funding for events, but can contribute to your event with publicity and informational materials on safety.

We organize training for entertainment venue staff on substance abuse prevention and harm reduction, first aid, violence prevention. We also conduct training on the psychological health of night workers and ways to support it.
