About the event
The summer season of the European Film Festival "Scanorama" has kicked off in Vilnius with the program "Utopian Cinema Evenings". Every summer Wednesday, the apocalyptic amusement park "Utopija" will host open-air screenings of European cinema - films in which anxiety, beauty and human fragility merge into hypnotic cinematic experiences.
The film, which received the highest critical acclaim at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, earned its lead actor a European Film Award nomination, and was voted the audience favorite at the European film forum Scanorama.
„"Cursed Land" is a story about a young pastor, Lukas, who is sent to the then Danish colony of Iceland at the end of the 19th century to build a new church. From the very first steps on the surface of the harsh and majestic island, he realizes that he is completely unsuited to this task. Having brought along sophisticated early photography equipment, the priest travels through an unknown land, capturing it and the local inhabitants. Inexperienced and ridiculously proud, Lukas trusts no one and sees deceit everywhere.

UTOPIJA
UTOPIA. T. Kosciuškos g. 1, Vilnius
Developed in collaboration with The House of Histories, UTOPIJA was established in 2023 in the courtyard of a former detention center and manor. It is symbolic that a place where artists and creatives were once imprisoned has, through cultural initiative, become a space where music, art, and freedom can flourish once again. UTOPIJA celebrates alternative culture, street art, and bold, uncompromising music. Its program of concerts, parties, and cultural events brings together both Vilnius residents and visitors, while providing a home for diverse communities across the city. With its raw, unpolished character, UTOPIJA embraces the city's rebellious spirit and offers a counterbalance to Vilnius' more polished side.
