About the event

What does it mean to live on the border, a place that is often talked about more than the people who live there?
On August 31, we invite you to participate in the audition of the radio play "Not a Zone of Communication", followed by a conversation with the playwright of the play, Erika Urbelevič. The conversation will be moderated by journalist Karolis Vyšniauskas.
„"No Communication Zone" is a documentary-based play created from interviews with local residents of Šalčininkai collected in August 2025 and based on real events that took place in Šalčininkai in 2017.
In 2017, unannounced exercises were held in Šalčininkai, simulating an invasion by the so-called „little green men.“ This event and its context became one of the starting points for the performance, but at its center are the people of Šalčininkai themselves and their voices.
After the screening, we will talk with playwright Erika Urbelevič about the process of creating the play and her experiences collecting interviews in Šalčininkai. Through them, we will also touch on broader issues of belonging and non-belonging, identity, language, regional representation, and stereotypes.
How do we know the places and people that are often at the center of public debate? What changes when we start talking with instead of talking about?
