About the event
Since their debut in 2017, the trio has become one of the most prominent groups on the young Norwegian jazz scene. Their concerts have ranged from sold-out Vancouver and Ottawa jazz festivals to renowned clubs such as Unterfahrt in Munich, PizzaExpress in London, HCP in Lisbon, and B-flat in Tokyo.
The trio's music is centered around the work of pianist and composer Kjetil Mulelid. It combines what Scandinavian jazz is so loved for: space, peace, and melodic beauty. But beneath this transparent surface lies much more – complex rhythms, rich harmony, energy, and the ever-changing improvisation of the three musicians.
Together with double bassist Rune Nergaard and drummer Andreas Winther, Mulelidas creates music where every sound has its place, but nothing is completely predictable. The composition here naturally transitions into improvisation, and the three individual voices merge into one living musical organism.
It's a classic line-up of piano, double bass, and drums, but a very modern take on how such a trio might sound today.
