About the event

A warm, crystal-clear voice, a range of almost four octaves, exceptional charisma and an instinctive sense of swing. Three-time Lionel Hampton Award winner and two-time DownBeat magazine award winner, jazz vocalist Julie Silvera (USA) is coming to Vilnius for an exceptional concert, where, together with an impressive quartet, she will present original, refined and highly musical interpretations of both "old" and modern jazz standards.

Julie Silvera has sung with such distinguished contemporary jazz artists as Russell Malone, Christian McBride, Roy Hargrove, Ira Sullivan, and Lionel Hampton's Rhythm Section. She has also had the pleasure of appearing as a backing vocalist with today's biggest stars, including Michael Bublé, George Benson, Josh Groban, Gloria Estefan, and KC of KC and the Sunshine Band.

Silvera is known as a performer and storyteller with a distinctive vocal style. Her voice is warm, clear, and has a range of almost four octaves. One critic writes about her: “Listen to the honey – no molasses – of her tone… Just when you cozy into her velvet sound, she growls out a line that is motivated purely by swing. Phrasing around the rhythm and landing in the pocket, she swings, and swings hard.”
„"Listen to her honey – without any viscous molasses note… As soon as you settle comfortably into her velvety sound, she suddenly carves out a phrase dictated solely by swing. She phrasing around the beat and hitting the pulse precisely – she swings, and she swings with all her heart." (translation).

The Jamaican-born American jazz vocalist has performed at jazz clubs and festivals across Europe, including Birdland Jazz Club and Bar Italia in Hamburg, Cave Du 38Riv' in Paris, Elegance Jazz Café in Rome, 12/14 Jazz Club in Warsaw, Pashkevich Jazz Club in Riga, Deutsch Berlin Opera Jazz Ensemble in Berlin, Jedermann Kavezo in Budapest, as well as the Riga Jazz Festival, the Eppendorfer Jazz Festival and elsewhere. During her tour, she released her first two albums, Sojourner and Because There Is You, which showcase her ability to swing both with a traditional trio and a duo. The latter collaboration featured renowned Cuban guitarist Jorge Garcia and seven-time Latin Grammy winner, violinist Federico Britos.
