About the event
This team of performers is a true elite of Lithuanian jazz, capable of gracing the stages of the most prestigious festivals. Jazz Cellar 11 is proud to present their new project "Born in 1959" in Vilnius.
The project's creator, Arkadij Gotesman, was himself born in 1959 and celebrated his anniversary last year. However, the same 1959 was important for the jazz world globally: many works and albums were born in the USA that radically changed this musical genre. John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Don Cherry discovered new forms of expression, and Ornette Coleman introduced the concept of free improvisation. It is to these jazz pioneers and their legacy that this project is dedicated.
The project is a dedication of our times, most of the music of which was created by the young and talented saxophonist, composer and arranger Karolis Šarkus, widely known not only for his original projects, but also for his performances with the Collaborative Jazz Septet and the Vilnius JJAZZ ensemble.
And next to the creator and composer of this project, the entire Lithuanian jazz constellation: saxophonist Janas Maksimovičius, trumpeter Dominykas Vyšniauskas, pianist Dmitrijus Golovanovas and bassist Eugenijus Kanevičius. Such a powerful team will ensure that this evening will be simply unforgettable.
