In 2025, an international quartet formed in Riga by renowned Canadian double bassist Andrew Downing brings together creative musicians from two continents, exploring the connection between sound and place.

Inspired by their shared experiences living in the North, the band's music reflects the contrasts of the landscape - from freezing cold to scorching heat, from the grandeur and mystery of the forest to the vastness and freedom of exploration. The quartet's sound reflects the bold creative spirit of Dave Douglas, Ornette Coleman and Carlos Bley, while simultaneously forming a unique musical language.

The quartet's combination of instruments – double bass, trumpet, saxophone and drums – creates a rich, multi-layered sound palette where breath, metal, wood and resonance meet. Through interpretation, improvisation, interaction and driven by an inexhaustible musical curiosity, the performers create music with a solid foundation, yet wide-ranging horizons, in which composition and spontaneity are equal parts.
