About the event
Jausmė is a unique singer, composer, songwriter, performer and budding poet, one of the first to promote the folk instrument, the concert kankle, outside of Lithuania. As a visionary and pioneer of her craft, Jausmė explores the potential of the instrument in the context of contemporary music.
Drawing inspiration from nature, Lithuanian roots and folklore, she masterfully combines traditions and innovations, thus revealing the hitherto undiscovered possibilities of the instrument. Jausmė's mission is to present the kankle not only in the context of folklore, searching for new sounds and ways of extracting sound. Jausmė's sound is an enchanting combination of traditional and contemporary music, reflecting a deep connection with her roots and the ability to transform it into a unique musical language.
In her compositions and songs, she weaves a cozy, broad-ranging blanket, decorated with elements of her favorite styles, with a powerful, dynamic voice, twenty-nine strings, in Lithuanian and English. The artist herself defines her sound as minimalist post-folk. The music she creates has a calming, therapeutic effect, where everyone can find a safe haven.
After more than five years of work (musical projects, writing a documentary track in collaboration with the BBC, electronic music partnerships, event organization) and living in Bristol, UK, the artist returned to her native Lithuania in the summer of 2020 to create, where, inspired by her roots, native forests, language, and people's stories, in March 2022 she presented a full-length solo album in Lithuanian, "Namolio", about her almost decade-long journey to her homeland, to herself. Her original compositions in the album are reminiscent of romantic Lithuanian folk songs, with a modern twist.
In 2023, Jausmė represented the country at the MENT festival in Slovenia, as well as at the WOMEX world music fair in Spain, where she performed her own songs and compositions to a full house of music industry representatives. The artist is expanding her audience not only in Europe (Poland, Czech Republic) but also across the Atlantic - Jausmė appeared in New York, as well as at the Folk Alliance International music conferences in Kansas City and Montreal, where she appeared in the official showcase for two years in a row.
