All band members come from various musical backgrounds \u2013 Alise Joste (vocals, keys), an accomplished Latvian singer-songwriter, known for her gentle and ethereal vocals, Karlis Josts (vocals, synths) and Aleksis Lurins (bass) who have been members of various local indie and alternative bands, and Janis Burmeisters (drums), who for two decades has been actively involved in the Latvian underground metal scene. This diverse shared experience translates into melodic song-writing against a heavy backdrop of dense and synth-driven arrangements. Their debut album \u201cTas b\u016bs ilgi\u201d (2021) was recognized in the Annual Latvian Music Recording Awards as the best alternative album of the year, and was shortlisted as one of the top 10 records in the Austra Award \u2013 the Latvian version of the Mercury Prize. Their sophomore record \u201cGatavs\u201d was released in February 2026<br \/>\nNielslens Lielsliens (@nielslenslielslens) is a Latvian contemporary folk music group. It has been active since 2009, performing in interesting venues, for example, public saunas and releasing recordings in audio cassettes. Original music has been published on the albums \u201cNegaid\u012bti varo\u0146i\u201d (Unexpected Heroes) (2024), \u201cKad knieb\u0113js kniebj\u201d (When Frost Bites, It\u2019s Warmer Together) (2019), \u201cAure\u201d (2014) and \u201cNielslens Lielsliens\u201d (2012). The band\u2019s musicians are Mareks Kaminskis (drums, percussion, kilimandjaro, voice) and Kl\u0101vs Kalna\u010ds or Siensliens (voice, guitar, guembri, percussion) and Vija Moore (balafon and voice).<br \/>\nThe album \u201cUnexpected Heroes\u201d is dedicated to real stories of heroes spotted in Latvian and foreign media and in the hairdressing salon. They tell about a Latvian marathon runner in Antarctica, a man who wrongly tried to destroy a colony of endangered birds, bears coming to the Vijciems village and other unexpected and inspiring events. Their concerts are a lively experience with danceable acoustic music with a dancer showing moves for audiences to dance with and to illustrate the stories being told.
